Frequently asked questions
Do you take insurance?
I do not bill insurance companies directly. I can however provide a monthly billing statement for you to submit for reimbursement if you have out-of-network benefits. Payment for each session is due on the day we meet and charged to your agreed-upon payment method.
How do I confirm that I have out-of-network benefits and how much I’m likely to be reimbursed?
Many PPO and POS plans include out-of-network benefits, while HMO plans typically do not. Coverage varies by plan, so it’s best to confirm directly with your insurance provider.
To find out how much you can expect to be reimbursed, you can call the Member Services number on your insurance card and ask:
- Do I have out-of-network benefits for outpatient psychotherapy?
- Is there a deductible? If so, how much is it and has it been met?
- After the deductible, what percentage of each session is reimbursed?
- Are there limits to the number of sessions per year?
- What is the reimbursement rate with CPT code 90834 (individual) and 90847 (couples)?
- Is there a limit to the number of sessions per calendar year?
I’m happy to answer any questions about using out-of-network benefits for reimbursement.
When and where do sessions take place?
I offer virtual daytime appointments for clients located in Massachusetts and New York.
What kind of therapy do you practice?
My approach is grounded in Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy and Self-compassion.
I also draw from a range of evidence-based approaches and will do whatever is practical and necessary to address your specific needs. Along with the deep inner work, I also integrate psychoeducation, practical guidance, and psychosocial skills development.
Depending on your goals and preferences, our work may also address self-esteem and self-care, underlying trauma or attachment wounds, and questions of identity or spirituality.
What is the process for getting started?
I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation as the first step. If you are seeking couples therapy, this can be done with either partner. It can also be done with a parent if you are helping your young adult to connect with a therapist.
If it seems likely that I can help with what you are seeking, we will schedule a first meeting. In the first meeting I ask some questions to understand your present concerns and any relevant history. The first few sessions (typically 2-3) are a chance for us to confirm that it’s a good fit for moving forward.
Don’t worry about telling me everything important about you in the first meeting! It takes a bit of time and you can trust that what’s most important will become clear.
What if I have more questions?
I’m happy to answer any questions during a free 15-minute consultation before we begin.
Ongoing, I welcome any questions you have about our work together and my approach. Psychoeducation and transparency are core values that guide my work, and I want you to feel informed and comfortable so you can be the best possible collaborator in your treatment.
