About Me
Hi, I’m Emma Worth (she/her), a clinical social worker and integrative psychotherapist with over a decade of experience in the mental health field across community, clinic and private practice settings, and I have been in private practice since 2017.
I work virtually with individuals and couples and am licensed in Massachusetts and New York.
I am passionate about working with young adults and midlife women navigating life transitions, and many of my clients also struggle with anxiety, relationship concerns, feeling different or misunderstood, and a harsh inner critic. I also work with couples who want to communicate more openly, weather conflict with greater care, and feel more connected in their relationship.
I’ll meet you where you are so we can:
- find and unlock the unique opportunities for healing and growth that become available in times of suffering
- develop practical tools to help you take steps forward in ways that are aligned with your values and goals
I bring warmth, curiosity, humor, and deep care to the therapy relationship. My approach is integrative and grounded in Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy and Self-compassion while also incorporating skill-building, practical strategies and focused problem-solving tailored to your individual needs.
My Approach
My approach is rooted in the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model and in modalities based on mindfulness and Self-compassion. These approaches are non-pathologizing and begin with the belief that every person has within themselves the resources and wisdom needed to heal and grow.
IFS helps us work with your inner experience, understanding that your system developed its patterns for good reason. The focus of a therapy grounded in this model is in the relationship between your varied “parts” (some that are protective, and some that hold your wounds) and your core Self. Everyone has within them a core Self that is undamaged and that knows how to heal.
The process also naturally cultivates Self-compassion. Too often we believe that we need to feel bad about ourselves in order to shape up, but that is not the case! In fact, closer to the opposite is true. Self-compassion is a stronger foundation for change and growth because it honors our shared humanity and helps us practice self-kindness.
My Why
I decided to become a therapist because of my own experiences with mental health struggles in early adulthood. I had to take a semester off from college to attend to my mental health, and had to prioritize my mental health care again in my mid-20s. It was disorienting and humbling, and it challenged the way I understood myself and my future. It also charted the course of my adult life and guided me toward this work. It also gave me a deep appreciation for how vulnerable and isolating periods of transition can feel, especially when they involve anxiety, questions about identity, self-doubt, and uncertainty about what comes next.
I consider it an honor and joy to support people in this process. My goal is to help you accept yourself, your past, and your life so you can be present each day, continue becoming who you want to be, and build a life you are excited to live.
I live in Melrose, MA with my 8-year-old daughter. In my free time, I enjoy biking, ice skating, writing, and spending time with friends and family. I have a cinnamon pearl cockatiel named Ella who occasionally makes her presence known by chirping during sessions.
